TPA Tampa International Airport


The airport is located on the east side of Tampa Bay and just five miles west of downtown Tampa. It is six miles (10 km) west of the central business district of Tampa, in Hillsborough County, Florida, United States The airport code is IATA: TPA, ICAO: KTPA. Tampa Bay Area is the metropolitan area served by the airport. Delta Air Lines and US Airways opened maintenance bases at the airport. Apparently no airlines is using the airport as hub. The total of 18,861,374 passengers used the airport on 2006. There was 257,603 yearly flights on 2006. The airport is very special on its design. There is a central Landside Terminal surrounded by four Airside satellites where airliner embarkment and disembarkment occur. These airside have an elevated automated people mover (APM) system which got 16 Bombardier CX-100 Shuttle Cars. TPA is unique and the first to deploy a fully automated, driverless people mover system. The airport has 3 runways, 2 of them is concrete and asphalt mixed surfaced and 1 is concrete surfaced. There is also 1 Helipad. The runways length in ascending order are: 2,133ft, 2,530ft, 3,353ft. And helipad diameter is bigger then the standard : 100 ft. Tampa Bay is where the commercial airline first occurred in history. The St Petersburg Tampa Airboat Line began operations on New Year's day 1914. In 1928 Drew Field was first build. Construction on the new terminal finished in 1971. In 1950 and Drew Field was renamed Tampa International Airport. Drivers can each the airport by Interstate 275 to exit 39B. Connecting interstates include I – 4 and I – 75 Drivers can also choose to travel via local roads such as Spruce Street to Westshore Blvd. or Highway #60. There are various options such as ; public transportation, bus service, rental cars, shared ride and taxis. Short term rates are $1.25 for each half-hour period up to a maximum of $14.00 per day. The long term parking rates are $1.25 per half-hour up to a daily maximum of $10.00 for a 24-hour stay over. Valet parking service daily rates are $16.00 There are off airport parking services operated by local private companies near the airport. 12 restaurant fast food café and bars are servicing passengers in the airport.
